Depression & Bipolar Center
Overview

Everyone feels down from time to time, but long-term or severe symptoms may indicate a mood disorder, such as major depression (or clinical depression). While grief is normal, depression is not a normal part of aging. Dysthymia is less severe than major depression.

Bipolar disorder (formerly manic depression) involves alternating episodes of depression and mania (manic episode). Postpartum depression occurs within a year of childbirth and is more serious postpartum blues.

Antidepressants and psychotherapy are used in treatment.
